Alberta Chocolate Sheet Cake

This is such a delicious sheet cake!! Moist beyond belief and so chocolaty, you have to experience it. Anyone who eats it, loves it and wants the recipe. It is a great cake for a pot-luck or for a birthday. It is so easy to make and so worth while. It is called a sheet cake because you bake it on a  large rimmed sheet pan. I found this recipe in one of my favorite cookbooks, the authors name is,"Ree Drummond" also known as the Pioneer Woman. Please make this cake everyone who eats it will love you forever!!!



Ingredients:
2 Cups all-purpose flour
2 cups granulated sugar
¼Teaspoon salt
½ Cup buttermilk
2 large eggs
1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Teaspoon baking soda
1 Cup butter
4 Tablespoons cocoa powder

1 Cup boiling water

Icing:
¾ Cup butter
4 Tablespoons cocoa powder
6 Tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon real vanilla extract
4 Cups powdered sugar
½ Cup chopped pecans

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt. Stir and set aside.

 In a another bowl mix the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and baking soda.
In a medium saucepan melt butter and add cocoa. Whisk together to combine.

Remove pan from heat. Add 1 Cup boiling water. Stir.
Pour chocolate mixture into the flour mixture. Stir to cool the mixture.
Pour egg mixture in and stir until smooth.
 Pour into a ungreased rimmed baking sheet (18x13x1 inch). 
Bake for twenty minutes.
While the cake is baking make the icing.. In a medium sized saucepan melt butter, add cocoa and stir until smooth.Add milk and vanilla. Add powdered sugar and stir. Add nuts and stir until combined. Immediately after removing the cake from the oven pour warm icing over top of the cake. Distribute 

evenly over cake

Combine flour, sugar and salt. Set aside.

In another bowl, mix buttermilk,eggs,vanilla, and baking soda. Set aside.

In a saucepan melt butter and then add cocoa. At the same time boil one cup of water.

When the butter is all melted pour the boiling water into the pot.

Pour the chocolate mixture into the flour mixture and stir.Stir to cool the mixture.

Add egg mixture and stir.
This is the final product.

Pour into sheet pan.

Ready for the oven.

While the cake is baking make the icing. Melt the butter in a saucepan.

Add cocoa powder.

Add milk and vanilla.

Stir in icing sugar.

Stir until smooth.

Add chopped pecans.

Keep mixture warm so you can pour it over warm cake.

Remove cake from the oven.

Immediately pour warm icing over cake and spread.

Ready to serve.
